Identify what is actually for sale
State the make, model and relevant variant, together with the attachments or accessories included. Distinguish equipment shown in a photograph from equipment included in the price. If the year is uncertain, describe it as uncertain rather than filling the gap with a guess.
Record meter readings accurately and explain what they measure. Do not describe hours as verified lifetime use unless you have evidence to support that claim.
Separate records from impressions
List documented services, repairs and changes with dates where available. “Starts readily in the conditions observed” is more limited than a claim that the machine is faultless. Avoid broad promises that a brief inspection or demonstration cannot establish.
Disclose known faults and missing documents. Seek appropriate advice about the responsibilities that apply to your sale; this guide does not provide a legal standard or authorise the sale of unsafe equipment.
Photograph the important details
Take clear photographs with the machine stopped and safely positioned. Show the overall condition, identification details appropriate to share, supplied attachments and relevant defects. Remove private paperwork, location details and unrelated personal items from view.
Do not approach moving equipment to obtain an action shot. A buyer should be able to understand the listing without an unsafe demonstration photograph.
Set expectations for a viewing
Explain whether a viewing is available, who will demonstrate the machine and what assessment a buyer may arrange. Agree any transport or collection responsibilities clearly. A sale does not remove the need for competent handling and a suitable loading plan.
Keep correspondence and an accurate record of the equipment transferred. Redact personal information from records shared with prospective buyers while retaining useful machine history.
Price the actual package
Compare like-for-like asking prices cautiously: condition, options and support vary, and an asking price is not a completed sale. State your own price and inclusions clearly. A useful listing reduces unanswered questions; it does not invent certainty about remaining life, suitability for another holding or future repair costs.
